We are the experts in Drupal themes
Dripyard was founded by two long-time Drupal contributors with a shared passion for building sustainable, world-class themes.
Mike Herchel, co-founder and lead frontend developer, was the primary developer behind Drupal’s default theme, Olivero. He also contributes to the Claro admin theme and Drupal CMS, and maintains Drupal core’s CSS subsystem—helping define the styling standards that shape Drupal itself. With over 18 years of Drupal experience, Mike has led frontend work for major organizations including Syfy, IBM, SBA, US Courts, and Drupal.org. He’s known for writing clean, reusable code and creating accessible, user-friendly experiences.
Andy Giles, co-founder and lead backend developer, has worked with Drupal for more than 15 years. A prolific contributor, he maintains over 30 open source projects on Drupal.org, many in the Drupal Commerce ecosystem. Andy’s expertise spans backend development, performance, and DevOps, where he focuses on editorial experience and maintainable solutions. He has also contributed to Drupal core and Drupal Commerce.
Together, Andy and Mike founded Dripyard to lower the total cost of ownership for Drupal sites, help the platform grow, and build a company that sustains itself by giving back to the community.
Our story
Dripyard began as Mike’s idea in early 2024. With the introduction of Single Directory Components (SDCs) to Drupal core (a feature Mike helped bring to life), commercial Drupal themes finally became viable. Before SDCs, themes couldn’t reliably know the markup they were styling. Legacy theme providers tried to solve this by bundling modules with their themes, but that approach locked site owners into rigid content architectures, stripping away much of Drupal’s flexibility and power.
Seeing a better path, Mike reached out to longtime friend and trusted developer Andy Giles. Together, they spent more than 10 months designing and building the first Dripyard themes, design system, and layout framework. It wasn’t easy — Mike even took out a house loan to fund the work. But through countless iterations, they built the products they always wished had existed.
